Soul's Sign

The soft water wears the hardest,
cutting through rock,
deep valleys made.
It matters not how the soft water feels,
nor the cool comfort that it brings.
But what matters most in nature is what it does,
creating beauty,
slicing even granite,
this soft element
 is the sharpest.

Words written or spoken,
without a point lacking context,
are meaningless and worthless.
It matters not how pleasantly the semantics read,
nor the images in the mind they invoke.
But what matters most in society are what they do,
communicating ideas,
reducing confusion,
these thoughtful constructs
Allow minds to be awoken.

Pictures drawn or pictures taken,
black and white or in vivid color,
representing in abstract something finite and physical.
It matters not how the lighting controlled,
nor the colors artistically arranged.
But what matters most to viewers is what they do,
invoking memories,
making visual synaptic connections,
two dimensional objects,
forging mental relativity that are not mistaken.

Lives lived and lives perished,
without a purpose,
are merely vessels of biological process.
It matters not how kind the sprit’s patina appears,
nor the ideas philosophical symbols such as crosses, stars, moons, or knots convey.
But what matters most are the actual deeds done,
altruistically, for unselfish purpose,
for the world community to discover improvement.
It is not the fact that the life was lived that is important,
for it is actual accomplishment that is most cherished.
